In
mid-June, 2001, the client approached Strega to take
over the installation of a one-kilometer pipeline of
18-inch steel pipe in soft clay conditions. The previous
contractor had failed, and the deadline for completion
was July 12. There were a number of challenges with
this project, in addition to the fast approaching deadline.
First, the project required communication and coordination
with many layers of stakeholders and subcontractors.
And secondly, many of the project consultants worried
that a D80 x 100 drill rig was not powerful enough to
pull the size and length of pipe in soft clay conditions.
