In January 2002, NKK Engineering (Thailand) hired Strega to complete five HDD installations, totally 568 meters, as part of its gas pipeline project. The most difficult and longest crossing was 285 meters, which included drilling beneath two canals, a road, and a railway.

Crossing under the railway foundation pilings required drilling to an unusual depth of 23 meters. This depth can make "walkovers locators", or monitoring of the drill head placement to ensure accuracy, difficult. Strega used Vermeer's Terrain Mapping System and Atlas Bore PlannerT software to create a topographical map and detailed bore plan. The crew also used a DCI Mach III cable transmitter for the locating system, and a Vermeer D80 x 100 NAVIGATOR HDD drill to ensure the pipeline's safe and successful placement beneath all underground obstacles.
